Cutting Board Oil Options

We highly recommend treating the board frequently in order to repel food particles and prevent stains and cracks from happening. It’s best to treat the board at least once a month or twice a month if used frequently.

It’s important to make sure that the cutting board is clean and dry before applying any of these oils.

Add a thin coat of Cutting Board Conditioner to all surfaces of your board. Let the Conditioner soak in for half an hour and then buff your cutting board to a nice sheen. Any spots of excess conditioner can be buffed into the board.

Food Grade Mineral Oil

Mineral oil is the most commonly used option because it is a safe and cost effective way to keep your wood cutting board looking great for years. Food safe mineral oil can be purchased at local retailers or online.

Pour a small amount onto your board and spread evenly with your hand or a foam brush. Let the oil soak in for half an hour and then wipe off any excess. Continue to add coats if necessary until the entire board is seasoned. Any spots of excess oil can be buffed into the board.

Avoid vegetable or nut-based oil

Do not use vegetable or nut-based oil on your cutting board for the simple reason that it will spoil and become rancid. This will leave your wood cutting board with an unpleasant smell that will also noticeably change the taste of the food you are preparing.
